Abstract

The Japan Studies Association of Canada (JSAC) annual conference was hosted in October 17-19, 2014 at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. JSAC is Canada’s largest organization of Japan social science and language scholars. Most members work at Canadian universities; others are associated other post-secondary institutions, research institutes in Canada, Japan and other countries. The overarching theme was Designing Japan: Innovation in a post-growth society. The theme acknowledges Japan’s demographic and economic situation, “post-growth”. Japan’s current and future experience innovating, in an environment that will soon be the norm in most developed countries, demands attention.
